Event Coordinator
Kate is an educator, poet and life long student. She works as a teacher for young children with language based learning challenges and is currently working to complete her masters in special and general education at Bank Street College. Kate was drawn to poetry as a young student, when she was introduced to Def Jam Poetry and spoken word by her fourth grade teacher. Kate quickly found her voice in creative writing and has used poetry, music and spoken word as a platform for community building and self-expression. Kate is determined to help young people find their voice through the arts and has facilitated writing workshops and performances for young children and adolescents. Her most recent project is the publication of her upcoming book, titled, "Transformations," which consists of a collection of poems that illustrate the complex and fluid evolution of her life.
You can check out Kate's pop-up writing sessions this summer in Washington Square Park, where she hosts a creative writing activity every week called "People of the Street Speak." "People of the Street Speak" is dedicated to creating an organic and free space where people from different communities can communicate, collaborate and share their thoughts with one another. This space is intended to provoke thought, ignite passion and build raw human connections.
